Painting

Whether you are a first time painter or merely want to improve your skills, this is a fantastic, personalized course! Lessons will include pastel, chalk, acrylic and oil painting.

The first few lessons of painting will be structured around the theory of color; the study of color will be the beginning of our painting journey.  Students will be familiarized with complementary, broken, hue, primary, and secondary colours. Students will be educated in how to mix colour. Understanding the complexities of colour is foremost if you want to succeed as a painter. We will also focus on brushwork, composition and form.

Drawing

Drawing is a mode of innovative expression and we provide classes suitable for beginners and those with more skill. Drawing is the foundation of many art forms. Mastering your drawing will spill over into the rest of your artwork whatever it may be. The best way to improve as an artist is to first focus on your drawing.

Throughout these two months, students will learn to apply composition to their work. Composition consists of the placement of object/characters. We also focus on scale, lighting, perspective, texture and positive and negative space.

Watercolour

We provide a variety of art classes in watercolour. A solid foundation in watercolor painting will help you to grow as a painter. Once you become proficient in basic techniques, you can paint anything in watercolors.

The approach in watercolour painting is different from acrylic or oils.  Watercolour is all about water, controlling water is the key to better watercolour paintings. Watercolours are usually transparent, and appear luminous because the pigments are laid down in a relatively pure form with few fillers obscuring the pigment colours. Students will enjoy trying their hand at a variety of techniques : washes, painting wet on wet or wet on dry, blending or layering colours, glazing, preserving the white of your paper, lifting colour, controlling edges, and fixing mistakes.
